Het CPB presenteert al 45 jaar koopkrachtoverzichten. Die overzichten kunnen opgevat worden als kengetallen voor beleidsmakers. Maar net als andere kengetallen hebben koopkrachtplaatjes hun beperkingen. Het is in de praktijk onmogelijk om op alle relevante criteria, zoals representativiteit en overzichtelijkheid, goed te scoren. Het ideale koopkrachtplaatje bestaat niet. Wel geldt dat het CPB, gegeven de onvermijdelijke beperkingen, de bestaande koopkrachtoverzichten voortdurend probeert te verbeteren. Dit artikel plaatst de laatste verbetering, opgenomen in de MEV 2015, in een langjarig perspectief.
